We should place guard rings around sensitive analog components. These rings should be connected to the analog ground to isolate the components from noise sources
I think the best practice for grounding in mixed-signal layouts is to use a single ground plane. This helps in reducing noise by providing a low impedance path for return currents. You should also keep the analog and digital grounds separate and connect them at a single point
In my experience, it’s important to minimize the loop area of the signal and return paths. We always make sure to place decoupling capacitors close to the power pins of the ICs. You should also avoid crossing analog and digital signals to prevent noise coupling
